Mindfulness is the ability to be in the present moment. In awareness of our environment, our feelings, and our thoughts. Our thoughts are in our complete control. Focusing thought in awareness leads to controlling the mind. A 2020 study has found we have on average, more than 6000 thoughts per day. That is 250 thoughts per hour! If we can reduce the number of unnecessary or unproductive thoughts, we conserve energy and reduce anxiety and stress. Can you imagine the benefit to our lives if we could focus the majority of our thought on what we want rather than what we don’t want?
The breath is the most powerful tool we have to increase mindfulness. Believe it or not, we only breathe as much as we need to survive. However, the practice of mindfulness is the most important way to stay healthy and connected to ourselves. Many years ago, I figured this out for myself. I was having a terrible time with pain management, I found out I had 7 herniated disks in my back and neck. I started my journey with self care on a deeper level. I started doing Wayne Dyer Getting in the Gap, Japa Meditation, and it was incredible, I could breathe like never before. I was experiencing true belly breath, and this was affecting my health in a beautiful way. I had more energy, a clearer head and I was healing at a very quick rate. My doctors said they did not know what I was doing but keep doing it. Meditation is key because it helps us control our mind in a positive way. We learn that when we can clear our minds, we can control how we feel. I used to tell my clients, if we could see our energy as money and we started every day with $100 of energy, most of us would be in the minus before we even left the house. Processing through all that negative self talk and worry, drains us before we even get a chance to start our day. Imagine if we started everyday with $100 worth of energy and built on it through the day. Wow! What would that feel like? I am a six-foot tall, large frame women with big energy, however when my energy falls its like falling ten stories to the bottom very fast so I have had to control my mind more than most. My clients always said my energy was infectious and that I made them feel like they could do anything. While I love having the ability to affect them this way, I also know that my responsibility to myself and my clients is to keep a healthy body and mind.
Also, with practice comes the ability to train the mind to remember the feeling of meditation. Once I figured this out, I could be in a place of only needing to draw on the energy of the thought and did not have to go through the entire meditation every time. I love meditating however, once we train the mind, we can then remember the feeling to get us through the moment we are stuck in. The thought that I held was the day each of my children were born, that was my positive moment that brought me back whenever I was experiencing a dark moment. Drawing on positive feelings or picturing positivity in our mind is another way to hold your energy. Walking in nature is a form of meditation. Walking the beach in my bare feet and swimming in the ocean is my favourite thing. I feel like I am in the womb of the Universe, it invigorates me and I feel recharged.
I also used Quantum Physics, “What the bleep down the rabbit hole”, to rewire my brain. I did not nor do you need to understand all the technical words to apply this to your own practice. You just need to know it is possible to rewire the brain. While meditating I would imagine that I would take the wires off the old belief and rewire the new ones with a positive believe. I would imagine my spine better and myself stronger. Rewiring the brain is a powerful tool, however in life a set back can pop up at any time, so we are tested, retested or challenged at different times in our lives.
I will leave you with one question. How willing are you to change your current beliefs? Thoughts are powerfully manifested into your physical life. Mindfulness is the key to achieving your goals, being authentic and having everything you desire in this life. Are you ready to have everything you have ever wanted?
“Train your mind to see the good in everything. Positivity is a choice. The happiness of your life depends on the quality of thoughts.” – Buddha
